The look of Nifty Eef

I’m thinking about trying out a new look for Nifty Eef, I’m getting a bit tired of the current one. I mean, I’ve had this theme since the beginning (four years!) so a change might even be a little overdue. :) I’m just going to browse the wordpress.com themes untill I find one that fits well. Hopefully there won’t be any weird things when I’m trying things out, but it might happen. If you see something strange, leave a comment here!

I like that it’s simple here at wordpress.com. I spend my days working on newspaper lay-out and when I get home I want to do different things. So while design is important for me, I’m not really feeling trying to learn all sorts of new things just to be able to design my own website when there are already so many cool themes available for me. I am interested in learning CSS and the like some day, but right now it takes a back-seat to all the other things I want to learn (sewing!) and do (I found a bookmark!).

So for now, I’m just going to try out themes made by people more awesome at webdesign then I will be for a very long time.

I started a new project about bookmarks and libraries

Some of you might remember this post (warning: Dutch) in which I explain an idea for making bookmarks for library books. It’s been almost three years since I came up with it but I never really did anything with it, until now. Discovering the vlogbrothers and Nerdfighteria inspired me to not let what I think is an awesome idea go to waste and to at least try it. I’ve started a separate blog for it, please go check it out! (It’s all in English.)

So this is the concept:

1• Get blanc cards.
2• Be a member of the library.
3• Borrow a book and read it.
4• Take one of your cards and make a bookmark out of it that relates to the book you’ve just read. You can draw, paint, play with typography or just write, be creative!
5• Scan/Take a picture of the bookmark.
6• Put the image in a blog post on I found a bookmark and write about what in the book inspired you for the bookmark.
7• Write the link to the blog on the back of the bookmark.
8• Put your bookmark in the library book and return it to your library.
9• Repeat steps 1-8.

Never gonna

Look at my poor neglected blog!
Sometimes I have these enthusiastic ‘I’m going to write more!’ moments and set myself down to just write and see what comes out. This has led to me posting more things here. But these moments never last. Stuff gets in the way,  laziness gets in the way. And before you know it it’s been over a month since I’ve done anything with my blog. Is this a sad thing? For me personally yes, but I doubt anyone else would care. Let’s face it, my creative efforts on this blog are at best mediocre. Yet I want to do it, get exited about things and write, take pictures, draw, do everyting with it basicly. Communicate, even if nobody is really listening. And I want to get better at all those things. Which takes practice. And practice. And then some more practice!

This is not news. But I need to find a way to keep up with the creative momentum, and I just don’t know how. To keep writing and doing things. It might not end up on this blog, but it will help me improve. I wish to learn. But I truly don’t know how to keep up the discipline. Which makes me feel like an idiot. But here’s to start #idontknowhowmany. Because I’m never going to give up trying to make things.

To borrow some words of Rick Astley:
Never gonna give you up

Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry
Never gonna say goodbye
Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

:D

Brushes

I gave myself the drawing app Brushes as a birthday gift. Awesome fingerpainting on my iPod Touch!

Below is my first try at using it.
