Journal pages

I filled up my Moleskine and moved on to a new one, this time a sketchbook one (I prefer the thicker pages to the blank notebook paper). I scanned some of the pages I did to share:

Bike and Lego

On the left page I wanted to draw a girl who’s really happy (a lot of my girls come out looking a bit sleepy/sad), and her on the bike is inspired by this video by Suzi Blu about her stamp ‘wheels of freedom’. I wanted to make my own version. :)
On the right is me wondering what Lego-me would look like. The background is so spotty because aquamarkers don’t really work on the Moleskine sketchbookpaper, it get absorbed too fast so that adding water only makes it weird. You learn things about how materials work together every time you try something new. I used regular pro and copic markers for the lego girl, and I’m pretty happy with the result.

Too Many Feels

On the left I pasted the result of practicing with aquamarkers on watercolourpaper (excellent, loved it!) and on the right a mixed media page about feeling emotionally drained. We all get those moments and for me making this page really helped me recharge. I’m quite happy with the result (yay for layering!).

Taizé

Just like last year and many times before that I spend a week at Taizé. It is always special and lovely although sometimes emotionally heavy, but this year was really amazing for me. In Taizé you get together with other people in a small group for sharing and discussions, and the things you talk about differ with each year (because you are sharing with different people). My group last week has made such an enormous impression on me, I feel like I’ve made connections that will last me a lifetime. We’ve all been able to be really honest about ourselves and our lives, we’ve cried and laughed together.  Of course I also had good interactions with other people in Taizé, and I enjoyed sitting in the church and being so peaceful, but to me, the sharing group is the highlight of this Taizé-trip.

And now lots of other photos and journal pages from my Taizé-week below the fold!

Murmuration

I love the word murmur. It’s soft, feels like the sound it describes and it’s repetition makes it look cute.

Murmuration from Sophie Windsor Clive on Vimeo.

You’ve probably already seen this video somewhere else. I myself saw it on Swiss Miss first. I find it incredibly inspiring and I’ve watched it multiple times. I wanted to reflect it in my art journal, and this is the result:

murmur

Of course, I don’t actually know what starlings look like up close so I just followed my pencil where it took me, including apparently something resembling a puffin.

Trying out my new mechanical pencil and my new water brush (over water colour pencils).

Journaling

Lately I’ve been trying to make ‘real’ journal pages instead of just drawings (of mostly girl-heads) in my Moleskine. Inspired by how AnnaDenise describes her process in her three Art Journal 101 posts I visually try to describe (pieces of) my life. I’m still a little shaky on what subject to pick and how to show them, which is why I don’t make one per day like she does, but just according to the subject I’m thinking about.
I try my best not to emulate her too much, I want to make pages that are wholly my own. So far, it’s just really fun. :)
I want to keep it up, to keep challenging myself and stimulate my ‘art-muscles’ (my real muscles need stimulation too, which is a more difficult project for a lazy person like me).
